October 22 2005

Well gang, there’s good news this week. Today, Saturday 22nd , the members of the Montrose Beer and Gun Club will put away their beer and guns….well maybe just their guns…..and become deeply entangled in the Fifth Annual Montrose Beer and Gun Club Cook-off and Musical Extravaganza.
This year the event serves a dual purpose. It will not only raise money for kids who wish things were better, it will also provide a distraction to all those Astro fans that are so anxious for the start of the World Series. So anxious in fact, that they would, without the event, have self-medicated themselves comatose before game time.
The gate at the West Alabama Icehouse opens at noon, the first band goes on at 1:PM, and the last band at 6:30 PM.
With the first pitch of the World Series scheduled for 7:30 PM, that fits very nicely.
Quite a few of the Astros wanted to stay behind and attend this year’s event, since they’d heard so much about it. But "Scrap Iron" pointed out, quite wisely, that if you really looked at it, participation in the World Series is pretty important too. If only for the money.
And he’s right too.
We can only thank Major League Baseball for rescheduling the start of the first game so as not to interfere with our band line-up. That was really classy.
Come on down to the West Alabama Icehouse gang.
And go Astros.

Till next week
