December 31 2005
Was too grief stricken to type this up in a timely fashion.
Well, there’s the worst possible news this week gang. The big get together out at the clubhouse and shooting ranges, scheduled for New Year’s Eve, has been cancelled.
It seems that late Thursday afternoon, two guys flashing DEA IDs came sniffing around our property. Wanted to look around the facilities to get the feel of things, were pretty bossy about it too.
Anyway, Earl and Henry Sudsmacher were the only ones out there and started taking the guys on the grand tour.
As they were driving past the black powder ranges, one of the visitors asked "What’s that building over there all by itself?"
"Oh, that’s just the black storage powder locker," said Earl, "nothing much to see in there."
The two agents looked at each other. "Oh, really?"said one.
"Really." said Earl. "Besides, it’s been so dry out here that it isn’t all that safe hanging around all that black powder."
"Do you have the key?" the agent asked.
Earl said that he did, and the agent told him to hand it over.
"I really wouldn’t be opening any of those cans in that building." said Henry. "Static electricity and all like that."
The agent said, "Uh, huh. You stay right here." And he and his partner started walking the couple hundred yards to the powder locker.
Earl and Henry waited in the jeep. They both took beers out of the cooler and were sipping them when the powder locker blew up.
Earl brushed some spilled beer out of his lap. "That was evil, telling them not to open any of those cans because of static electricity." said Earl. "You have a sick mind." Henry squinted at him.
At any rate, the DEA is missing two agents, and it’s going to take a little forensic work to even prove that the agents were ever even on our property.
Earl and Henry have been told not leave the county and our whole complex is being treated as a crime scene, and is closed until further notice.
Our luck is just mind-boggling.
Oh well, have a merry Christmas, and try to have a happy New Year, even if you don’t drink beer and shoot guns out at the club house and ranges.
Till next week
