Last week it was reported that Buford Meany of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department had made it a condition of reopening the clubhouse and shooting ranges that Joe Cap be stricken from the membership rolls of the club.

Now Joe is a well thought of individual, and this did not sit well with his fellow members.

Our lawyer, Wolfgang Schellcasing, got wind of the situation and volunteered to negotiate with Mr. Meany.

First of all, Wolfgang got Bufordâs agreement that a club dedicated to beer and guns just doesnât come along every day.

Then he went on to point out that some of the members could cook up one hell of a batch of home brew, and were pretty generous with it.

Buford sighed, nodded his head, and said, "Oh yeah."

Wolfgang continued by giving Buford a full description of our facilities, including the mortar and anti-tank gun ranges, and that there were few clubs indeed where you could get your hands on that kind of ordnance.

Buford got a little gleam in his eye, and nodded again.

Then , Wolfgang went over the details of the Joe Cap three ten point bucks incident, stressing the fact that it was and accident. And that when mixing beer with guns accidents do have a way of cropping up. Itâs just a part of the culture of beer and guns.

Finally, Wolfgang told Buford that Joe was very well liked by his fellow club members, and being primarily a self regulating organization, it wouldnât be unheard of for a thoroughly disliked individual to be out at the shooting ranges and meet with an unfortunate, well, accident.

Buford looked at Wolfgang. "You know?â said Buford, "Your description of the three buck incident has made me see it for the accident that Iâm now sure that it was. Joe absolutely must remain a member. And Iâll give him back his hunting gear and his pick-up, and it would be pretty to think that there would be a full-blown formal meeting at the club house and shooting ranges this spring."

"Let me get you a fresh beer," said Wolfgang.

The negotiations were over.
