May 2 2005

Thereâs bad news this week gang. Last week in this message to the membership, some less than flattering remarks were used to describe Tom Delayâs character.

In a fit of pique, Tom immediately used his considerable clout in the state of Texas to close down our clubâs clubhouse and shooting ranges.

In short, the big get together scheduled for the weekend of May 14th and 15th has been cancelled.

Thousands of our members from all over the country, and quite a few from other nations have been forced to cancel airplane reservations, vacations, and the shipping of their favorite firearms to Texas. And these days that gets kind of complicated.

In the past when the clubhouse and ranges were closed down by the likes of the sheriffâs department, fire department, United States Army, or the SPCA, we have known where to go to address the problem.

This time, however, in a typical Tom Delay manner, the power behind the closing is a tangled web of organizations that you almost expect to be headquartered in the Bahamas somewhere.

In order to bring pressure to bear on the problem, some of our more influential members have called in a few markers in Washington, DC.

AS you may recall, in January the House of Representatives, on a partisan vote, approved a rules change that was sort of like changing the rules in the middle of a baseball game. And thereby protecting Tom Delay from investigation by the House Ethics Committee. Like in Iraq, the neo-cons are making it all up as they go along.

Well, our influence behind the scenes in Washington paid off. On Wednesday of this past week the House of Representatives voted to undo that rules change.

Consequently, Mr. Delay can now be investigated by the Ethics Committee. That will teach him to mess around with the Montrose Beer and Gun Club.

Right gang?

Till next week
