This past week John Flint wanted to go out drinking beer and shooting guns with a few of the boy as, but his wife Mitzi had been against that sort of thing for the past couple weeks.
It seems that several of the boys had been involved in some shooting accidents lately. Only one of them anything serious. Something to do with a lost toe or something, and Mitzi didn’t want John to take part in that kind of activity anymore.
So when John got a phone call to go shooting, he told Mitzi that a bunch of the boys were going to the pub to watch the ball game and he was going to meet them there.
Now John was expecting that call, and had already put his guns in the cab of his truck. As he backed down the driveway, Mitzi stood at the living room window watching him go with a warm smile on her face. There’s nothing like being able to change your man’s behavior.
In order to lay on a little positive reinforcement, she microwaved some popcorn and sat down to watch the game at home. That way, they could share the drama of the contest when John got home. It would be good for the relationship.
An hour or two after the game was over, Mitzi heard his truck coming up the driveway. She went to the window just as John was dragging two gun cases out of the cab. The skin on his face was just a little gray. Except around his eyes, where the safety glasses would have been had he been shooting black powder.
By the time john had opened the front door and staggered into the living room, Mitzi was sitting in front of the TV with ear protectors on, and the "defender" shotgun laying across her knees.
At first, John thought she was listening to music. But then she stood up and he saw the shot gun.
"Was that a great game or what?" Mitzi smiled.
Unfortunately, John answered, "What game?"
Mitzi put two shot gun rounds into the TV set, took off the ear protection, and proceeded to scream at John in an extremely agitated fashion.
John, of course, couldn’t hear her, and wouldn’t hear anything she said for a half hour or so.
That was the good part.
