Well gang, this week it’s time to take care of a rumor that has been floating around. There is a conspiracy theory being circulated that the Montrose Beer and Gun Club is being controlled by an elite inner circle. Sort of like the United States of America being controlled by a shadow government.
This is pure nonsense. It should be obvious to the most casual observer that, like our government, this club is under no control what so ever.
It’s kind of like a school of fish. The school gets from point "A" to point "B" avoiding trouble along the way, and from a distance appears to behave in an organized manner.
But it would be a mistake to believe that there was any coordinated master plan involved, or anything approaching what you would call leadership.
When the club needs to get something done for any reason, somebody always volunteers. When they get tired of being on the job, they un-volunteer and someone takes their place. Things get done. But that is not to say that we are organized.
The beauty of our club is that except for a lawyer, a chaplain, and a secretary we have no officers, no dues, and aside from our benefit every Fall, no meetings….. unless some of us just happen to find ourselves in the same place at the same time.
Another point that should be cleared up; this so-called "inner circle"is supposedly referred to as the " Inebriatti".
That’s just plain silly. Since the inception of the club, anyone who blows 1.8 on a breathalizer and can still put one out of six rounds in the "X" ring of a paper target, is automatically a member of the "Inebriatti".
And about that "secret handshake". There’s nothing secret about it. When most of our members raise a glass in a toast, there’s bound to be a little unsteadiness in their hands.
