January 1 2006

This is the last day of the year gang, and 2005 ends on a good note. And on a bad note too.
The good note is that Earl and Henry Sudsmacher have been absolved of any wrong doing in the vaporization of the two DEA agents last week out at the black powder range.
It turns out that they were in contact with their boss by cell phone when they decided that the cans of black powder just might be cans of white powder.
When they lifted off the metal lid on one of the metal cans of powder it arced a spark. And now there is a very large hole in the ground where the black powder locker used to be, and two DEA agents are missing. Through no fault of Earl’s or Henry’s.
Their not being to blame is the good news.
The bad news is that the blast started the mother of all grass fires, what with things being so dry out there and all like that, and unexploded rounds have been going off on the mortar and anti-tank ranges, among other places.
The boys in the Volunteer Fire Department gave it a good try, but after losing a fire truck to an exploding mortar round, they decided to let the thing just burn itself out. You really can’t blame them.
The beer has been evacuated from all the walk-in coolers and was donated to various VFW posts in the area, and everyone is keeping their fingers crossed hoping that the fires burn themselves out before they reach our newly renovated clubhouse.
And speaking of fires, let’s make sure that none of our people are guilty of playing around with bottle rockets this year. They ought to be outlawed.
Everybody have a safe, fire-free New Year celebration, and a year filled with beer and guns, and everything that goes with them.
Happy New Year gang!

Till next week
