April 8 2006

Well gang, at last, the opening day of the 2006 baseball season is upon us.
Soon, the antics of our elected officials will have some competition in the newspapers and on TV.
And it’s about time too.
The Bush administration’s handling of the situation in the Middle East has turned the whole region into a veritable showcase of, as Mr. Bush likes to call it, " democracy, and freedom and peace".
Even the Palestinians have had a fairly executed democratic election, which is proving to the world that democracy is the key to everything. And with Hamas at the helm, can peace be far away? You would surely think not.
The country of Afghanistan has recently refused to execute a man, even though he confessed to converting from Islam to Christianity. They had the guy cold, but chose to bend the rules. What a bunch of nice guys.
And speaking of nice guys. Tom Delay, as nice a guy as there ever was, had another close associate cop a plea and turn states evidence.
You can just imagine poor Tom trying to figure out how they managed to get away with all this stuff without him catching wind of it. As innocent as we all know him to be, it must be an almost Kafkaesque experience for the poor man.
But it’s good to know that we’re catching the bad guys, and leaving Tom alone. So far.
And then there’s Congress showing some bi-partisanship for the first time in Lord knows how many years. This, of course, is their attempts to hammer out legislation to handle the immigrant and border situation.
It’s funny how the problem just all of a sudden popped up after 911.
But like congress always does, by golly, they’re going to pull together and do something about it for the American People.
And as far as the American go…well, we need baseball. We need it right now. We really, really do.
Have a great season gang. Go Astros.

Till next week
