Well gang, Memorial Day weekend is here. Which in a way, is kind of odd, because Memorial Day is on Wednesday. You know, Memorial Day Wednesday. The day when we traditionally memorialize the men and women that have paid terrible prices while solving problems that our leaders couldn’t handle diplomatically.
Considering the prices that our troops have paid down through the generations, you would think that
observing the holiday on the day itself, would be more in line with the solemnity of the occasion.
But no, the meaning of the holiday isn’t as important as having a four-day weekend. As having a celebration.
No need to get serious about it and all like that. Why first thing you know, you’ll start thinking about
what war is. About missing body parts. About shell shock. About combat fatigue. About post war stress syndrome. About desert storm. . . Well, first thing you know, you’ll ruin a perfectly good holiday afternoon. And we don’t want to ruin no perfectly good holiday afternoons, now do we gang?
Till next week
