This week finds members of our club starting to organize themselves into teams for this year’s benefit on Saturday October 20th.
Considering the organizational abilities of most of our members, it’s not a moment too soon.
There’s some heart-warming news too. One of our more erudite members, in as much as he has a high school diploma, and all like that, after searching the world over, has finally found the woman of his dreams.
He met her on a business trip to Bulgaria.
Ostensibly, the trip was to introduce a new music form that he has invented called Soul-Bop, which is a blend of Soul Music and Jazz with Eastern Mediterranean over tones.
He figures that the area is a natural location to get it started.
But it was in a dimly lit wine cellar, while making connections in the international small arms trade, that he met his lady-fair.
Dressed stunningly in camouflage, jackboots and an understated plain black beret, she got his attention by beating him three times straight in a friendly but serious arm-wrestling competition.
That night she took him home to meet her father and some cousins that dealt in fully automatics and rocket propelled grenades.
When her father found out that his weapon of choice was an 8mm Spanish Airforce mauser of 1943 vintage, the old man got tears in his eyes and opened up the first bottle of home made Rakia, which is something like Italian grappa.
It was the first of many bottles.
Our fellow club member, whose name is Sol, woke up two days later in the middle of a roaring bacchanalian feast, to find that he was betrothed to the lovely lady in the black beret who had brought him there.
Two of her cousins, who were hopefuls on the Bulgarian Olympic weight lifting team, spent a great deal of the time exuberantly pounding Sol on the back until they dislodged two of his fillings. At which point they contented themselves with simply crushing his hands with joyful handshakes and toothy grins.
It looks like Sol has found himself a really nice family.
And maybe some new club members too.

Till next week
