Well gang, there’s good news this week. Sunday, September 7^th is going to be the date of this year’s kick-off party for the club’s annual benefit for kids who wish things were better.
It will be held, as usual, at the upstairs bar at Rudyard’s Pub on Waugh Drive. With a little bit of luck, there will be a band, finger food, and the chance to find the one or two people necessary to fill out the roster of your cooking team.
Forms for team entries are currently available at the classier neighborhood watering holes. In other words, the West Alabama Icehouse, Lola’s, P.J.’s Sports Bar, Cecil’s on West Grey, and of course Rudyard’s Pub, and the Next Door.
Whether or not you show up to register a team, it’s a good excuse to get everybody together again and swap stories. There’s been a lot of water under the bridge.
Like the time a group of members were having a cook-off, with beer and guns, of course, and Sheriff Tom Long and his girlfriend were there, along with Earl Dimly.
Now Earl is a real country boy, and none too bright either.
So while participating in a little friendly shooting competition at the party, Earl found himself too full of beer, and well, he just casually relieved himself right where every body could see him.
Including Sheriff Tom Long’s girlfriend.
"How dare you urinate in front of my woman!" screamed Tom.
Before Earl could say anything, Tom hit him with a vicious right cross. Down went Earl. And the Sheriff wound up holding his right hand between his knees and groaning in pain.
He had busted his hand pretty good, so his girlfriend got him into the car and took him to a near-by veterinarian.
At any rate, when Earl came to, he was more or less O.K.
A friend of Earl’s stared at him and asked, "What in the world were you thinking? Taking a leak in front of the Sheriff’s girlfriend?"
"In front of her?" whined Earl, "Hell, I didn’t even know it was her turn."
