All club members and regulars out at the clubs shooting ranges remember "Lucky" the three- legged dog. It seems that "Lucky" was with his master and some friends of his master, some years back, who began shooting clay pigeons.
The very first clay pigeon was mistaken by "Lucky" to be a frizzbee. Well, "Lucky" went up in the air and caught it’. His master missed the clay pigeon and, fortunately, only blew off "Lucky’s" left front leg.
A few months went by, and while soaking up a few brews with the boys, and forgetting that "Lucky" was in the neighborhood, his master and the boys started tossing clay pigeons out the back of a pick-up truck and blasting them with a twelve gauge.
About the third or fourth clay pigeon, "Lucky" leaped from out of nowhere and nailed it. His master didn’t miss either, this time. And that was the end of "Lucky" the three-legged dog.
Well, "Lucky’s" master had "Lucky" buried behind the firing line of the skeet range out at our facilities. His master had a special tombstone made for the grave, and to this day, if you go out to our skeet range you’ll see "Lucky’s" special grave marker. It looks sort of like either a frizzbee or a clay pigeon. Depending on how you look at it.
We won’t be going out to our clubhouse and ranges any time soon, but on Sunday, September 7th, we are having a kick-off party at Rudyard’s Pub for this year’s cook-off to benefit kids who wish things were better.
In all probability, it won’t hold a candle to the Democratic and Republican conventions, but it will give us a chance to get together again and talk beer, guns, and cooking. Sunday, September 7th between 7PM and 9PM. Try to be there. If more than 10 people show up we’ll have the folks in the kitchen whip us up some finger food.
Till next week
