October 18 2008
Well gang, we go into this week with only seven days until our yearly benefit for kids who wish things were better. At the same time, we are being asked to cough up money for KPFT, and more to the point, the Spare Change Show, that is, as far as any body can tell, run by Larry Winters.
Now Larry gets lots of nasty responses because certain types of people think that he is in some way NOT a lock step Republican. It’s hard to see how they could get that impression; he just plays good music and doesn’t seem to have a political bone in his body
Whenever he does try to get political, it’s so against the grain of his character, that he muddles words around until you don’t really know what it is that he’s trying to say.
If you can use words on the radio like this, he sort of obfuscates everything all to hell.
Now whether you like Mr. Winter’s show or not, the main point in this week’s fund raising exercise is to donate money to "Listener’s Sponsored" radio, as opposed to the alternative that we listen to every day in other places on the dial.
If you’re listening now, you know damn well that you can’t hear Mr. Winter’s music anywhere else. Including that great music collection of yours.
So, bite the bullet and pony up a few dollars for the radio station that is paid for by the people. It’s our station.
As far as the Montrose Beer and Gun Club benefit that will be held Saturday October 25th at the West Alabama Icehouse is concerned, well, we’ve got so many cooks this year, that there may not be room enough for visitors.
All the same, if you have something special to donate to the silent auction, bring it along.
Or if it’s not so special. You never can tell, it’s that old "Trash & Treasure" thing.
We know that it’s hard to be generous when our neighborhood is still suffering from "Ike", but what’s a mother to do?

Till next week
